Here is a Basic outline of the psychological meaning of Colours, that I am sure you will benefit from:
Note: These are only guidelines and just one part of the overall consultation procedure. For further in depth information, it is advised that you contact me for an individual analysis on the colours tone values and what would best suit your particular premises.
The Meaning of Colour Guidelines
Yellow - Yellow is a warm colour and is usually associated with happiness. It is said to improve concentration, aid digestion, ease depression, increases confidence, enthusiasm and optimism. It is best suited to bathrooms, office / study areas.
Orange - Orange is a joyful colour, it is best used in social areas, such as lounge / living rooms, however this needs to be balanced with the introduction of blue / green shades. If too much orange is used this may effect your nervous system. This colour can aid with individuals experiencing depression.
Green - Green is a very relaxing, calming soothing colour. Great for living areas where friends and family members tend to congregate, giving them a sense of ease. It works especially well with wood furniture and floors.
White - White, where do I start... there are so many shades of 'white' which can be extremely confusing to the average person (so don't worry, you're not alone!!). It is often used in contemporary schemes or as an easy way out to choosing colours. It is a very cleansing and purifying colour. However, may look too stark in some areas of the home / office. My suggestion therefore is accessorise, accessorise, accessorise..... Introduce colour through paintings, soft furnishings etc to promote warmth back into your home / office.
It is a great colour base to work from and when accessorising with other colours, you are able to change to look of your environment easily. Be careful as whites aren't often pure, they do have a hint of colour in their base notes, ie pinky, grey, yellow, blue etc.

Colour Blindness
Individuals will often perceive colours differently. For example, If you are blue green colour blind you may perceive a colour as green, when another may perceive the colour as blue.
Remember the technically correct description of a colour is not important; it is our individual perception of colours and their feeling toward it which is important.
Red - Red is a two edged sword, it can stimulate deeper emotions such as passion, love and courage or it may trigger anger, revenge and hatred. Again it will depend on the individuals perception of this colour and how they interpret it. It is a warm colour and can be used to increase body temperature. Too much red can have severe side effects, so be careful when adding this to your colour scheme.
Violet - Violet is a Cool calming colour often associated with meditation. It is said to increase intuition, cleansing, purification on both physical and spiritual levels. It is best suited to bedrooms as this will stimulate sleep and encourage dreams.
Blue - Blue is a cool colour, it is very relaxing, tranquil, harmonic colour. It is said to increase intuition and can heal feelings of loneliness.
It is often used in areas of the home that receive full sun to cool the room temperature, especially on hot summer days.
It has a antiseptic feel, but may make a room feel too cold depending on the shade of blue chosen, so again be careful.
Black - Black is a protective colour, it can be used to aid in calming some individuals who may be over sensitive. However, too much black may increase depression or may even aggrevate and increase certain mental conditions. Used sparingly in furnishings etc will work fine. It is not recommended to be used alone, but as a base to compliment a combination of other colours of your choice.
